Class Description


MYSORE:
Mysore style is named for the city in South India where the guru of Ashtanga Yoga, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, or ‘Guruji‘, as he is affectionately known by his students, lived and taught from 1948 to 2009. Mysore classes are unique compared to other asana classes and offer the safest and most transformative way to practice Ashtanga yoga. Students in a Mysore class are taught individually in a group setting. The classes are not guided and each student must commit the postures to memory. Beginners to yoga are WELCOME and are introduced to the Ashtanga sequence little by little, practicing only the section they have been taught, building slowly over time (Normally within two weeks the beginner student has developed their personal practice and is practicing independently). Each student practices at his or her own pace, largely uninterrupted by the teacher. The teacher moves around the room adjusting students, offering personal advice and advancing students to the next posture based on their abilities. If you feel drawn to the practice of Ashtanga or have a desire to deepen your practice, this class is for you. Although beginners are welcome, it is recommended you try a Guided Ashtanga class to see if the Ashtanga practice interests you.


GUIDED:
The teacher verbally leads students through part of Primary Series. This class emphasizes both alignment and flow. This class is suited for all levels, from those new to yoga to more seasoned practitioners wanting to reawaken and refresh their practice.

This class will be a teacher led Ashtanga practice working through the poses in Primary Series, emphasizing both alignment and flow. These classes will include some work with poses to facilitate deeper opening and awareness of the core primary poses. Practice will be vigorous but open to all levels. Mysore style is the traditional way Ashtanga Vinyasa is taught and learned and is the most transformational and safest way to practice. Students are taught individually in a group setting and each individual practices at his/her own pace. This style of practice helps facilitate independence, transformation and the development or deepening of a personal yoga practice.
The true gifts of yoga are apparent only through consistency and commitment! Come breathe, sweat and practice daily for 2 weeks and see what unfolds for you…
